Spring Training Fantasy Notes: March 20, 2013

Earlier in Spring Training Wade Miley was suffering from what Arizona manager Kirk Gibson called “dead arm.” Miley’s velocity and effectiveness had been extremely suspect, but yesterday his fastball was sat in the low 90s and topping out at 93 mph. So Miley looks like he’ll be fine for the start of the season.

Hanley Ramirez injured his thumb while playing in the World Baseball Classic yesterday. As of now his availability for the start of the season remains safe.

Ian Stewart will begin the year on the DL. Josh Vitters was optioned to Triple-A so Luis Valbuena is likely to be the starting third baseman for the Cubs. Other than NL-only leagues Valbuena should not be owned.

John Danks struggled again yesterday with his fastball sitting between 86-88 mph. It looks as though Danks will begin the year on the DL and Hector Santiago will be the White Sox fifth starter. Santiago can miss a lot of bats, but has trouble controlling where the ball the goes. He’s worth a flyer in a 15-team mixed league.
